| Dear Rin, Maybe the Western idea of love is different from the Eastern idea because the Western Concept is more bound to Matter or Thingness. Is a thing in fact or an expression of an idea? Perhaps the truth is that when one person loves another it is because they love through the other like a lens. The other one becomes the focus of their love. What is love? Maybe we can define the ottributes of love but the essence of love is evanescent, it is beyond our grasp. The Western Mind is more prone to grasp. Concepts are like claws or teeth, they pounce on life and make it Thing. Even with people, can you believe it? Even with people. “This contract says you are my people-thing.” “Did I sign that???” But if one person meets another person and when they meet the heart of the first person is singing then it is a happy occasion. It is a celebration of life. But maybe what makes the heart sing is something that other person is not even aware of. A way they move or express themselves or unique way they see the world. It could be a number of things or combinations but somewhere inside ther is the collector. Insiide it says “ I want this person for my collection”. The heart wants to sing. If someone says to themselves in their memory. “That was the day my heart was singing- I will put a rose by the memory of that day.” There is no Thingness in that. It is a bird that cannot be captured. People want to capture the bird. They want to train the bird to sing. Too bad. The bird is free. George |
